Pros and cons
Altra
Pros
- Footwear is sold direct by the brand rather than through a third party retailer, so the listed price is the one you pay.
- Returns run 30 days and worn pairs are accepted, so a pair that does not suit your feet can still come back.
- Widths cover regular and wide, so runners with roomier feet have a real choice rather than one standard fit.
Cons
- Entry price of $104 ranks Altra 8 of 13, so it is not the cheapest shelf here.
- There is no lifetime warranty, which separates Altra from brands that back their footwear for longer.
- Support runs on chat and help centre only, with no phone line listed for order questions.
Decathlon
Pros
- Prices start at $9.99, placing Decathlon 5 of 67 brands on price from.
- A lifetime warranty covers eligible gear far longer than the site median of 2 years.
- The range spans camping, hiking and outdoor clothing, so one brand covers several sports rather than a single niche.
Cons
- Worn returns are not accepted, so footwear and clothing have to be tried on with care.
- Support runs on email and help centre only, so there is no phone or live chat route for sizing questions.
- The range is limited to US, which rules it out for shoppers based elsewhere.

Questions about each
Altra
How much do Altra running shoes cost at entry?+
Shoes start at $104. That is the brand direct entry price for the range, and it ranks Altra 8 of 13 against the running shoe brands on our pages. Buying from the manufacturer means the price shown is the price paid, with no third party retailer margin in between.
How long do I have to return Altra shoes?+
You have 30 days to return a pair, and worn returns are accepted, so shoes you have tried on and found uncomfortable still qualify. That return window ranks Altra 5 of 17 on return days, which is well ahead of most brands in the same table.
Decathlon
How much does Decathlon gear cost?+
Entry pricing starts at $9.99 and rises by product, with gear bought outright rather than through a plan. Decathlon ranks 5 of 67 brands on price from, which places it among the cheaper options on this site.
Is there a membership or subscription to pay for?+
No. Decathlon is a brand rather than a subscription service, and every item is a one-off purchase at $9.99 and above. Nothing renews and no fee recurs, so the only repeat cost is replacement gear.
